When it comes to New Year’s Eve you’re either overjoyed with the possibilities of fitting into the perfect dress, finding the ideal person to kiss when the ball drops or cringe at the mere thought of it.

I’ve learned throughout the years that clubs and dressing up aren’t for everyone (me). I’ve been told fictitious stories of how fun it can be when you get dolled up, drive to South Beach, fight for parking and cram into a room with 1,000 other people can be. But, as you may have guessed, it didn’t quite sum up to my expectations. Don’t get me wrong, if you enjoy clubbing on the busiest time of the year, by all means, party your ass off. But I’m a true believer that you don’t have to go out or get super glammed up for New Year’s Eve (or ever) to have a good time.

So if you’re a boring old hag like me you’ll enjoy this.

I’ve curated a list of fun and cheap NYE alternative ideas instead of going out clubbing.

1. Cabin in the Woods

If you’re willing to travel up north to snow piling up outside, wood burning in the fireplace, great food, mixed drinks, surrounded with people you love, this could be a great alternativeImagine a stay at North Georgia or Juniper Springs Campgrounds, killer views and a potential snow fight? Sounds like winter wonderland to me.

2. Adult Swim

Get wet, get drunk, get crazy. There’s no holding back at this NYE pool party. Clothing is optional, inflatable toys are a must.

3. The Last Supper

Nothing brings people closer than food. So why not arrange a pot luck dinner party with your friends? Have them all cook up their signature dish and dig in! Bon a petit.

4. Get the Travel Bug

If your new year resolutions include traveling why not start the year by crossing off one item in your list? Whether you’re going at it on your own or with friends, exploring the rainforest in Manaus, the churches of Florence or the bath houses in Budapest, you’re bound to have a great time.

5. Lingerie Party

Booze? Check! People? Check! Clothes? Nope! This pajama party is meant to be sexy, fun and a bit risqué. Because why not? New year, new you.

6. Take a hike

Florida isn’t just about beaches and Disney. If you love the outdoors, go on a new year’s hike at Ocala National Forest. Hiking brings you closer to nature and at the end of the exhausting climb you get the best view. So worth it.

7. Go to a Concert

When? December 31st. Where? Bayfront Park. Who? With Mr. 305 himself. Yes, Pitbull will be hosting his end of the year bash with some surprise guestsAre you ready to scream at the top of your lungs, dance the night away and party with Miami’s ambassador and friends? If you are, this is where you need to be this NYE. Dale!

8. Go to Disney

The happiest place on earth meets new years. If you’ve ever been to Disney you know the fireworks there are insane. So just imagine them on this magical night all the while hugging it out with your old pal, Mickey.

9. Aboard a Booze Cruise

Yacht, cruise, ship, whatever, you’re on the ocean sailing away the past year. Be sure to bring plenty of booze till you land ashore!

10. Life is a beach

For us Miamians, the beach is our second home. Grab a bottle of wine, a blanket, some friends and get ready to watch fireworks beneath a lifeguard stand on South Beach.

Honorable Mention Goes To:

Netflix & Chill

Are you lazy? Do you love movies? What about Netflix original series? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this is for you! There’s nothing better than binging on your favorite movies or series to welcome the new year. Just make sure you stock up on all your favorite junk food and drinks!
